Vila de Pinhão



13 minutes by car (Here you'll find the main shops; supermarkets, a bakery, a pharmacy, a butcher, restaurants, a petrol station and the Pinhão train station with trains to and from Oporto every 2 or 3 minutes. It's also a departure/arrival point for boat trips up and down the Douro river).

Quinta da Corte Wine Farm



5 minutes by car or 20 minutes on foot (This wine estate is just outside the town of Valença do Douro. They offer wine tastings, an on-site restaurant and guided tours of the estate)

15 minutes by car. Located in Folgosa, halfway between the cities of Peso da Régua and Pinhão, Restaurante DOC offers tasting menus and à la carte options from Michelin-starred Chef Rui Paula. This contemporary-style restaurant is next to the Douro river and has an attractive terrace with marvellous views.

10 minutes by car (this restaurant/bar on the banks of the Douro River is the ideal place to relax while having a meal or a glass of wine).

Quinta do Noval Wine Estate



22 minutes by car (This wine estate became famous for being the base for the filming of the television programme ‘The wine Show’, starring actors Matthew Goode, James Purefoy and Mathew Rhys. This quinta also offers wine tastings, a wine shop and guided tours of some of the most beautiful vineyards in the Douro region, but all this has to be booked in advance. Check the website).

Peso da Régua



30 minutes by car (This town played a fundamental role in the production and commercialisation of Port wine over the centuries, as it was from here that the barrels were transported on the rabelo boats to Porto, where the wine was left to age in the local wine).



São João da Pesqueira



30 minutes by car (This village is the oldest recognised municipality in the country, created in 1055. There are some beautiful and picturesque streets in the old part of the village, as well as a wine museum which is the main tourist attraction. You can also find supermarkets, shops, petrol stations, restaurants and bars).

Lamego



40 minutes by car (Known for its historic centre, with a long history as the main city of the old Province of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro. Legend has it that the first Portuguese Courts were held in Lamego in 1143. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Lamego is based in the city (many restaurants and shops available in the city centre).

Vila Nova de Foz Côa



1 hour by car (This town became popular in the 1990s when it was discovered that there was a vast collection of Palaeolithic art made up of thousands of stone engravings. The tourist office has interesting free brochures that will guide you around the archaeological sites. If you visit the city, don't miss the Côa Valley Archaeological Site and its three open archaeological sites. There are also many shops and restaurants available).
